Painting of the Month: April 2018

“Wolf Moon,” 2018

Oil on canvas, 18” x 24”

This large oak tree, divided between the setting sun and the rising moon glorifies the majesty between night and day. It is inspired by a tree on a ranch at the borderline between Marin and Sonoma counties. Many of these wonderful oaks can be seen from the road but I love those special ones that few people see. They seem like special religious objects hidden in plain sight.

“Big Yellow Pot,” 2018

Glazed earthenware, 18” x 9”

Antique French confit pots have always fascinated me. I love the simplicity of form and color . . . sometimes just green and white with crackled glaze from much use. So earthy and solid and anything looks good in them. This is my version, a little more suggestive of form with its green squiggles and indentations, but hopefully lovable and useful in the way those ancient French pots are.
